1. Student Involvement Fair

September 2, 2022

I attended the Student Involvement Fair on Thursday, September 2nd. I stayed at the fair for about a half an hour and walked around the Commons Lawn with my friends. The first club I joined was the outing club. I really wanted to join this club because I really want to try new things and meet new people. I figured that joining a club that goes to new places every week to go hiking, skiing, and rock climbing would be a great way to make new friends and try new things. I also liked how all of the equipment I would need would be provided by the school so I will not have to pay for anything extra.

I also joined the Rotary Club, which is basically an Interact Club at the college level. I am super excited for this club because I was part of Interact for all of my four years of high school. In high school we did community service for the school and town, and I also did a service trip to Puerto Rico. I am excited to do the same in college and help make a difference in this community. I also signed up for Panera rewards so I can get discounts on my Flex Dollars. Panera is my favorite restaurant of all time. Lastly, me and my roommate are going to join intramural volleyball during the winter season. She is actually really good, but I am so bad at volleyball. We are going to do it for fun, to make friends, and to stay in shape when it starts to get cold out and we will be less active. I am super excited to join clubs at UNE in the upcoming weeks. Above is a picture of myself with all of the stickers and other trinkets that I picked up from the different stands there!

2. Career/Internship Exploration Fair

October 26, 2022

I attended the Career and Internship Exploration Fair about a month ago. My main goal while attending this fair was to get a better idea about the job opportunities in the surrounding area. I was a little disappointed that there was not many jobs there geared towards the students. For instance, most of the tables were representing jobs off campus. I did not have a car at the time so I had no way of getting to these jobs unless I took the bus or was able to get a ride. I also talked to the Hannaford spokesperson and he gave me some really cool sunglasses. I also talked to a couple spokespeople from a local rehabilitation clinic that told me about job opportunities working with children and outside, as well as some very interesting internship opportunities. Overall, this experience was helpful because it made me realize that I really wanted to get a job on campus so that I would not have to worry about transportation into town.

4. Home Opener Football Game

September 10, 2022

I attended the home opener football game early in September. We got there a few minute before start time and my friends were able to find seats right next to each other. UNE Nor’Easters played the Bridgewater College Bears on a Saturday and kicked off the season with a win. I don’t necessarily go to the football games because I actually like football or even understand it, but I go more for the social aspect, to hang out with people. The UNE Nor’Easters got a few touchdowns at the beginning of the game, which put us in the lead from the start. It was really hot that day so we only stayed for the first half of the game before we got overheated. We left with a bunch of other people too and went and got lunch at The Pub. After that we all went back to our dorms and either showered or napped, and then that night we all met up at Freddy Beach. Some people swam, some people read a book, others just watched the sunset over the bay while listening to music. At the beach, we all talked about the football game and got details on how the game ended after the rest of us left. UNE beat Bridgewater by a lot, with a final score of 38 to 23. There is another football game this weekend which is Homecoming, and I am going to go to this game with my mom who will be coming up to visit.

5. Greta Van Fleet Concert

October 4, 2022

I went to a Greta Van Fleet concert on October 4th with my older sister. Tuesday morning I skipped my classes and I rode the bus around 11 am to the train station in Saco. I then got on a train that took me to UNH in durham where I bought some lunch at the cafe there. My mom picked me up and took me back to New Hampshire. I spent that afternoon getting changed spending time with my mom and then I met my sister in Concord that night. We drove down to Manchester to the SNHU arena. Greta Van Fleet is a modern rock band had two band openers, a folk band and an indie band, who were both really good. After keeping the crowd waiting for a pretty long time, the main band came out! Greta Van Fleet performed for almost 2 hours straight and played pretty much all of their most famous songs. The band members are 3 brothers and their childhood best friend: the twins Josh and Jake Kisksa, their older brother Sam Kisksa, and their friend Daniel Wagner. The light show was insanely cool, they are amazing live performers, and their set list was so good. My favorite song that they sang was Heat Above from their Broken Bells album. The concert was better than I ever could have imagined and my sister and I had an amazing time together. It was definitely worth spending the $70 per ticket.

6. Hockey Game

October 21, 2022

On Friday I went to the home opener Hockey game. This was not the first official game, but the first pre season men’s game. That night was a lot of fun. I got ready to go to the game with some of my friends and then we all walked over to the forum together after dinner. We got there a little bit late, but we were able to catch the last 2 periods. UNE Nor’Easters were originally losing pretty bad, but came back in the last period, scoring 3 points and tying the game at the end. The game went into overtime, and UNE won by one point. The crowd was going absolutely insane, people were running up and down the aisles with team spirit shirts on, and whenever UNE would score the crowd would do their signature dance and chant. It was overall an amazing, fun experience and I met a lot of new people at the game. I will definitely be going to many more hockey games in the future.

7. Women and Men’s Basketball Game

November 8, 2022

On Tuesday me and my roommate Sam went to the women’s basketball game at the the Forum gym. This was very fun because both me and Sam played basketball throughout high school, so it was fun to watch the game with someone who knew what was going on and actually talk about the different plays that the team was doing. We reminisced about our time as kids playing basketball and then shared about the different teams we played on in middle and high school. The game itself was awesome. The game was pretty close the entire time and UNE won by a few points. We knew a couple people who were playing so that was cool to see them in action. After that game, the dance team showed up and then the men’s game started. The men’s team was losing by quite a bit in the beginning, but then started to come back as the game went on. Me and sam stayed for the dance team’s half time performance, but then we had to leave because she had to get to work. I heard from friends that the men’s team unfortunately lost by a few points, but both games were very fun to watch.

Other Activities

8. Apple Picking

September 26, 2022

Last week I went on a trip put on by the school to a local apple orchard in Maine. That morning, I went on about a 45 minutes bus ride inland. While there, me and my friends picked apples from the hundreds of apple trees there, walked around the orchard, picked pumpkins from the pumpkin patches there, took pictures, and did a corn maize. After that, we walked about 20 minutes down the road to the orchard’s general store. While there, we bought apple cider and donuts, and then we sat on the picnic tables outside under the chestnut trees and ate our snacks. I really enjoyed this time because it was nice to just sit and relax and enjoy the nice weather with my friends. We spent the entire day at the orchard, and as soon as I got back to campus I took a huge nap caused by all the junk food that I ate. Overall, I had a great time at the orchard.

9. Harvest Fest

November 13, 2022

I went to an event put on by the school on November 13th: Harvest Fest. This was super fun, other than it pouring rain out that day. Basically, the school set up a bunch of stands on first floor commons. Some had coloring pages you could use, another was a pop up thrift store where you could get item for free, and other stands had raffles you could enter. There was a scavenger hunt, a fresh honey stand, trivia, free candy and other snacks, and also a stand where you could buy beauty products like chapstick. There also were a few stands with hot apple cider and a hot cocoa stand. Outside, there was a food truck with free homemade meatballs and mac and cheese. These were the best meatballs I have ever had in my life and they were coated in fresh mozzarella cheese. Me and my friends ate our food in the commons and just hung out inside away from the rain for the afternoon. That day was very fun and relaxing and I really liked the event.

10. Pet A Dog Event

November 18, 2022

On Friday I woke up early because I had a meeting that morning with Advising. This was the day that I declared my major and finalized my schedule for next semester. After my meeting, I got breakfast, went to class, and then got lunch with friends. After lunch I went to the campus center where there were five therapy dogs that’s soul job was to sit there and let people pet them. I liked this event because it was fun to just relax and play with adorable dogs for a half hour. There was a tiny teacup Chihuahua, a Golden Retriever, a Pug, this Shitzu that I am in the picture with, and one other older dog. I loved how happy the dogs were to be pet and how content they were to receive all the positive attention from the students. It must have been a great stress relief for some students to be able to forget about life a little bit and just play with puppies. In the campus center, they also had some surveys going on to see what theme the students want “The Hang” to be and what kind of food they should have there. This was very cool and I am hoping they turn it into a game room with a smoothie bar.
